Impeachment. It's a magical word, one that I have been waiting to hear, ever since that day in 2001, when Bush took office, with no regard for the fact that the majority of Americans had voted for the other candidate.
We watched Bush conquer Afghanistan in response to 9/11, install a former Unocal employee as its president and ignore Saudi Arabia's ties to Al Queda, virtually forgot about Bin Laden because "he had been marginalized in the war on terror".
We were dragged kicking and screaming into a war with Iraq, a secular country with no ties to Al Queda, yet did have the world's #2 oil reserves. We watched as all of Bush's justification's for war proved to be false, from the mobile weapons labs to the reconstituted nuclear program. His "Curveball" source, was deemed to be an opportunist and a liar almost a year earlier. Bush continues to insist 3 years later that he would have made the same choices, even though they were made based on false info. 2,000 Americans and 30,000 Iraqi's dead, and no impeachment proceedings.
The Downing Street Memo came and went with hardly a whimper, although it suggested that Bush had "fixed the facts around the policy".
Now Bush has plunged us so far down the road to dictatorship that he feels he doesn't need to follow our own laws or observe the checks and balances built into our constitution, and people have started to see him as the scoundrel that he has been all these years. People have begun to scream the magic word. Impeachment.
